Always have a spare cartridge on hand so that your printing job won't be interrupted. Spares are affordable when you use our services.

When installing any cartridge, print at least 2 pages to be sure the cartridge is working properly.
If after two pages the print quality is unsatisfactory, see our troubleshooting recommendations on the Questions and Answers page.

Keep your printer cleaned and maintained according to the owner's manual.

Inkjet Cartridges:

  • Do not let your cartridge run completely out of ink. Printing with an empty cartridge can damage the cartridge. With a multicolor cartridge one color always runs out before the others. You may still be able to print with the remaining colors, but you will burn out the print-head components associated with the empty color. Never run a cartridge without ink.
  • All printers should print something in all colors bi-weekly to keep the ink in the print head from drying out. A dry print-head may fail, even if the cartridge is full.
  • Do not put tape on the copper strip or print-head (where the ink comes out). The tape can damage the cartridge.
  • Excessive shaking or heating (leaving a cartridge in a hot car) can cause damage or leaks.
  • It is best to store full cartridges upright.
  • If you notice lines, streaks, or colors changing or missing, see our troubleshooting recommendations on our Questions and Answers page.
  • Over the counter inkjet refill kits can be messy, difficult to use, and may not contain the correct ink formulation for your cartridge. Don't damage your cartridge with a refill kit. See our remanufacturing section on our Questions and Answers page.
  • Regular soap and a green scrubby pad will easily remove ink from your skin. For fabric, apply liquid hair spray until ink is dispersed, then rinse and launder.

Toner Cartridges:

  • Some parts in these cartridges are light sensitive and can be damaged when exposed to excessive light. It will help if you store your empty laser cartridge in its original plastic bag and cardboard box. If you don't have the packaging, place it in a plastic bag in a dark area.
  • Keep the packaging from new and rebuilt cartridges for future use.
  • Do not expose the cartridge to direct sunlight or room light for an extended period of time.
  • Do not attempt to open or disassemble the cartridge.
  • Store cartridges at normal room temperature.
  • Excessive shaking or heating (leaving a cartridge in a hot car) can cause damage or leaks.
  • You should always keep your printer cleaned and maintained according to the owner's manual.
  • Toner is not hazardous; however if your hands or clothes have toner on them, wash your hands with cool water and soap. For clothes you can simply brush off outside in the open air. Do not wash toner-stained clothes in hot water as the heat may set the toner into a permanent stain. Use cold water only.
